G'DAY!
I've discontinued my old personal changelog (for personal reasons ;) and have migrated over to this new series. These are focused solely on my new game studio and the work we’re doing.
Let's get stuck right into it.
THE GAME
I'm continuing development on my untitled 2D sidescroller (formerly Arcane). Kicking things off with a demo for one of the most essential parts of the game.
Melee combat.
I'm currently working on testing my ideas about how this'll work. It's a simple boss fight against a big ol' Ogre (let's call him Gronk).
Since this’ll be a cornerstone of the gameplay, I figured it’s best that I work on nailing it down first in a standalone demo. I’m very excited to see how it turns out. There’s a lot of challenges for making this feel interesting in what is practically a 1D playspace.
The animations aren’t my doing. After struggling for a couple of days I decided it would be best if I hired an artist to free up that role from me. Allowing me to channel my efforts more into the game design / programming.
I was lucky enough to come into contact with a really talented pixel artist (@JustFredrik) who's been doing an amazing job! I should have more to show next week of what he’s been cooking up ;)
At this stage, there’s no point in making things highly detailed / polished, we're just trying to get the general feeling down pat and iterate quickly.
I'm aiming to have this rough prototype done by this time next week (which in Randy time translates to 2 weeks).
I’ve got my work cut out for me today, so I’ll keep this brief!
Hit me up in the replies and I’ll try to answer any questions in the next changelog. Until then, take care!

Ngl, I was really happy to get a new changelog entry man. Pleasantly surprised!
I knew I recognised the name @JustFredrik, loved watching his Candlehead devlogs! The art is in good hands
